The only good thing was that NATO did start air strikes on my behalf and laid the groundwork for what is going on in Libya right now. So, um, sorry about that.
Anyway, I've been good still married, just found out my wife is pregnant, changed companies and moving up in my job so like is good. Also, haven't read a blessed webcomic since my last regular post on here, the one before, "Incoming transmission." No PVP or CTRL ALT DEL bullshit to worry about and my life, well has continued unfettered without trolls or having to defend what I do in the digital world. The catalyst for a my full brake stop was Kevin Smith, yes that Kevin Smith, who was on Preston and Steve, a very good Philly radio show who puts up their entire broadcasts btw, talking about how he drove himself fucking crazy trying to deal with all the people criticizing his work. He realized that his thoughts were opinions and opinions were subjective, they cannot be right or wrong especially if is in based in real world facts that you interpret. Well that and he started smoking weed . . . and since I didn't take up the recreational drug use his words gave me an epiphany about how I was writing this blog. Why was I offering up my opinion to only be shouted down by PVP supporters or called out on being wrong? Why was I getting so worked up about it? So a cold turkey day of not reading any comic turned into a week and has been for about 2 years now. I don't know what Scott is doing and I wish him good health and luck and that is all I can really say on his, because that is his value to me :). The only thing I do now is support Penny Arcade's Childs' Play Charity and I encourage you all to do the same.
So I know what some of you are saying. "Why the fuck is this verbose motherfucker talking now and what the fuck is he talking about?" Ah, the internet good thing I live out in Chester County, PA because I'm used to the smell of shit from the mushroom farms out here. I am starting a side project with a podcast with my buddy Jake who is also soon to be my brother - in - law in 2012 and is one of the nicest and funniest guys I know. The one thing I do miss is the community and if any of you are still crawling around this site like the cockroaches the PVP supporters thought we were I'd love to have you guys listen and tell me what you think when we are up and running in the next week (end of next week to be specific). I'll post links to where we are going to upload them and my email is sage2153@yahoo.com for any comments. I'll read what I can, respond to those I want, and if you don't like it well good for fucking you :).

The life lessons of PVP makes Me SadUnknownnoreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4989649127373312714.post-81751479024015845682009-09-23T14:18:00.001-07:002009-09-23T14:18:27.813-07:00Please Stand by for Future Transmission . . .Unknownnoreply@blogger.com16tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4989649127373312714.post-81068677074328822422009-07-27T20:41:00.000-07:002009-07-27T20:42:08.806-07:00Sad Sad Little ManClothes Make the Fan

Art -

Story -Unknownnoreply@blogger.com123tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4989649127373312714.post-49007380228101464122009-07-21T10:33:00.001-07:002009-07-21T10:33:40.107-07:00Fizzy Lifting DrinkLast Call

Art -

Story -Unknownnoreply@blogger.com17tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4989649127373312714.post-88850389411175243302009-07-08T13:36:00.000-07:002009-07-08T21:54:02.812-07:00Panda Wars (as predicted here two days ago)Panda Wars: Part one

Hey guys, I have a few minutes in between leaving work and going to get a grill for the new house. Full review later but I wanted to get the new thread up

*Update* Phillies FTW!

Art - I really liked the drawing of the cameraman in panel 2 and the heli-RV in panel 4 (which is a cool concept). Nothing really much good or bad otherwise as Walt is drawn without any deficit and the shading is ok.

Story - Uh oh I smell I a diatribe from Scott coming on . . . (to be continued later)
And to prove my point I refer you to panels 1-3 as he is pegged as the ultimate delusional environmentalist. From the lines "there is a hole in my black embittered heart" and "return them to China where they can die naturally from loss of habitat" you can tell Scott doesn't plane like the guy and it takes the caricature away from being comical to just vitriolic. (Hey if the guy is named one of the 50 people who can save the planet by The Guardian he can't be that bad.)

From a practical standpoint, who the hell really knows who this guy is? I only recognized him as "the bearded dude from Whale Wars" and if Animal planet wasn't running consistent ads Id be SOL for the WHOLE arc. The show pulled in an average rating of .7, or 946,000 people a week and really how many of those people watch the show? That is the true definition of inside baseball, seeing as I had to look up Paul Watson for about 5 minutes on Wiki to see who the heck he is.

From a storyline standpoint I don't like the order of the strips as why did they break in and THEN film the segment for Panda Wars show? It seems very out of order. And to avoid the "reviewing a daily strip with a story arc" trap I'm guessing they kidnapped Brent (maybe to be SAVED by the panda?) and that will make it fall into place, but anything outside of that would make no sense

BTW Check out the Blackest Night storyline in the Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps comics. I really didn't get into comic until 2 years ago with the Sinestro Corps war and if you like comics with an epic feel (plus raising of the dead and addressing the repeated "resurrections" of superheroes in DC at least) I believe this is going to be a very good arc. It is a shame that this will likely be the last superhero movie that COULD be made because an extensive amount of technology would be needed to do all the light constructs on an epic scale without making the character look foolish or movie too expensive. Of the DC properties it would be nice to see a GL and/or a Flash movie, IMHO.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com79tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4989649127373312714.post-13501475703506509122009-07-06T21:14:00.000-07:002009-07-06T21:23:57.294-07:00It's the knick knack paddywack, still ridin' Cadillacs.Come to My Window

Yo Yo Yo, what is up my peeps? How is my peep-ulation doing?

Sorry that’s bad but I do bad well :). It has been a nice couple of weeks with minimal to nil involvement with PVP because I’ve been in Herndon, VA (lovely town) for continuing education, setting up for the closing on my house, and helping my fiancée study for her nursing boards. Add that little vacation to the fact that Scott has stayed out of my inbox and I’m a happy recharged man.

Art – As is common with PVP the art is done well throughout and the drawing of the guy in the last frame (whose identity is revealed here later) was done well enough where I recognized him off the bat. The drawing of the break-room, the full body shot of the panda, and the drawing and interaction with the blinds are all done very well.

The only big flaw I see is the copy and paste of “the Panda’s” body in the first and second frame. While the position is ok in the first, having his head whirl around without changing any part of his body gives ME a crick in my neck. Lowering his right arm and turning the body to that side would have been more natural. I am a therapist: body positioning is part of what I do (for those who question why I critique it)

Story – I guess from the fact that the gentleman in the last frame is a dead ringer for Paul Watson, co-founder of Greenpeace and from Whale Wars, that we are heading into a “Panda Wars” story arc. Not really the OMGWTF?! then. I really haven’t liked anything that has involved “the Panda” in the recent years (Panda Whisperer, Panda Protection agency, etc) because he’s a mute character and none of the people around him were particularly interesting in those arcs.

However, it’s the opening salvo so I reserve judgment of the whole until it’s rolled out further.

Btw never have seen an episode of Whale Wars, but this week (because they are promoting the hell out of it) the whalers are using audio weapons (cool in their own right) to fight off those who are attacking them. Maybe the only one I watch but there is potential for some good unintentional humor.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com17tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4989649127373312714.post-23830511193173530212009-07-06T21:07:00.000-07:002009-07-06T21:14:15.882-07:00Back in Black, I hit the sack, I've been too long I'm glad to be backHey everyone,
Sorry for the little vacation but this has been keeping most of my attention:
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEje8LkIgXNU7ef-9XHmyD7W9pqNJIzUCS5_X2tCzLAJ8lhAi7E_TUNGyrVfzyp0UJ3EyQnfZPHX73sO7bxzUgJOZZcirSj0FAo_inNa_-o5-4hN8SHC3JAKimpWa4zprb4brgysFWSWIeBq/s320/house+pictures+100.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5355566486009060482" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo2JH08RBjA-8NZcAZe9et3KxWM8Rp9UA8g2AS8vKF_S2Eb9ZDxHY9rrv0Qr6XEXxxaDcPqYw9gmvmoipPvHxp4wWYvj5hhoNI_d4gvXasp3uHMhuvuP9djUM0JbOeUHMXOfT77UW_ds2N/s320/front.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5355566478026394130" />

But most of the stuff involved with closing and getting ready for the house is slowing down so I'm back.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4989649127373312714.post-81911663677753774522009-06-26T16:33:00.000-07:002009-06-26T16:36:15.214-07:00Well this is awkward. . . .Girls' Knight Out

Art

StoryUnknownnoreply@blogger.com27tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4989649127373312714.post-61142061181457550222009-06-22T19:16:00.001-07:002009-06-22T19:17:13.399-07:00B(D&D)SMTaking Initiative

Art – I really have no complaints about the strip save for my normal problem with the shadowing under Jade’s right eye in panel 1 and Brent’s in panel 2. Even that is small because they are light enough where you have to take a harder look then normal to see it.

Otherwise, there is no Jade with bug eyes (another normal complaint), and the shading of the hair, especially Jade’s, is done well. Also, Jade’s mischievous/sinister look in panel 3 is done very well.

Finally, I really like Jade’s arms throughout as the width has been variable at times with the characters and she could have look beefy (or Clarkson-esque, heeeeey-oh!). They stay thin, and very feminine throughout.

Story – I’ve never played D & D a day n my life but this is a good version of gaming nerd joke. Unlike other instances, this is no where near being too inside baseball and it is a joke that the average person can get. Plus, as I have seen with Morgan Webb and Olivia Munn girls into anything nerdy is sweet and adding –atrix to anything will give anyone (even D&D virgins) a good nerd-on.

Side note – Who’s pony tail is sweeter, Brent or Jade?Unknownnoreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4989649127373312714.post-71102390417646398442009-06-17T10:25:00.000-07:002009-06-17T10:26:55.033-07:00UpdateHey guys,
Sorry about the lack of posts, but i am alive! Just been a hectic week as work has skipped up (12 patients in 8 hours of PT wears you out) and I have 2 minutes to just post this. Good conversation going from what I saw and Ill add my 2 cents about PVP and DING!'s return as well.

It'll likely be around 6-7 pm EST thought :)Unknownnoreply@blogger.com30tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4989649127373312714.post-77935662629781312252009-06-11T10:20:00.000-07:002009-06-11T15:36:55.702-07:00Let Go Of . . ..Last Call

Art - I liked the art in panel one, especially in the shading of the trees and the overall detail of the house. Scott does seem to do well with landscapes where he can put detail into his work.

Robbie and Butler are also drawn solidly/well like they normally are and I like the shading on Robbie's chin a lot better then before. It changed from the beginning to the end of the last strip from the lighter circle to the border of his chin. It looks a hell of a lot better and a lot less distracting.

The only thing that confused me was the size comparison between Butler and the couch. Either that is a REALLY tall couch and Robbie is taller than I thought or Butler has shrank (which I believe he's taller and skinnier of a character.) At the height of Butler's chest the couch would have to be about 5-5.5 feet tall which is the size of the headboard of the bed we are getting and most couches I have seen aren't that tall.

I know it is mostly a framing issue keeping the characters face's in the panel. Just when that happens you get some unintentionally weird proportions :)

Story - I don't know if it has been revealed before for interesting for me to gain the information of Robbie's last name. The story really didn't touch on anything that was brought up from the last strip, in terms of what Robbie thought of his life.

Asking what you guys think, when Robbie said Jase would run the brewery I was curious, is Max also a partner of the business (i.e. "runs" the business) as well or just a consultant?

The punchline was meh for me, as I guess my opinion of Heineken then Robbie/Scott :)

As a side-note - Renee Engstrom, creator of Anders Loves Maria is doing her second Sketch-a-thon. Scott and I don't agree on a lot but we agree that she is a great artist and this is a good way to support her and get some nice art from her. I did it the first time around and hope to this time, so if you want something follow this link here.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com27tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4989649127373312714.post-11276471367363582932009-06-10T10:49:00.000-07:002009-06-10T12:09:20.027-07:00Look at yourself in the mirrorTakes One to Know One
Art -

Story -Unknownnoreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4989649127373312714.post-57012814326539673302009-06-09T12:38:00.001-07:002009-06-09T13:06:08.646-07:00Gogurt for DrunksArt - The two frat boys were done well from a character design point with only the lack of a sclera on the guy on the left causing a minor distraction. Also, a good use of "camera angle" to pull back through glass to show Jase a Robbie there with the white lines not being too distracting.

One other thing I noticed if you look at 6/7/09, 6/8/09, and 6/9/09 Jase's nose changes from small and rounder, to bigger with a hook/point, to round with no point. It does change the shape of his face when you look at the differences of the three.

Story - Nothing much here, just a middle strip showing the progress of the product. Robbie does speak the truth though. The unintentional humor of the strip was that most focus groups do perform just like the one in the strip.

Just so you guys know commenting is turn back on for this strip, yesterday things were starting to go downhill and well it was the easiest way for me not to deal with it and things spiralling out of control when I was at work

On a side-note: From Scott's twitter. "it feels like "insert name of jerk being negative about Scott" is always followed by ".blogspot.com"" There is a jerk named PVPmakesmesad out there? Wow that is a coincidence.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com32tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4989649127373312714.post-76397491710476505762009-06-08T21:26:00.000-07:002009-06-08T21:46:24.577-07:00Ok everyoneTo explain the sudden re-emergence of Scott Kurtz on our site.
a) Scott emailed me on Friday basically saying what he said here "why do you feel the need to publicly tear down my work"
b) I, very verbosely, responded with my history interacting with him, and what my motivations in doing PVPMMS, none of which has to do with him, and how PVP and PVPMMS make up .0001% of my life
c) Scott responded saying he knows that PVP and PVPMMS are big in my life and that I have to think about it all the time. Also, that everytime someone brings up the site to him it ruins his day and finished with "Just let that roll around in your head a bit and let me know how you can be okay with that."
d) I responded back again saying that Scott Kurtz really places no role in my life and it was funny that he supposes to know what is important in my life. Plus I dont attack HIM so I have nothing to feel sorry for
e) AGAIN Scott responded refuting whatever I wrote to him ending with "You can try to claim that everyone talks about their favorite stuff this way, but they don't. I don't. My friends don't. We don't maintain websites like you do. We don't tear down people like you do." (see Buckley, Tim, the woman who critiqued his book, anyone who critiques or dares to swipe at him, despite the fact he swipes at people for proof against that)
f) i stated the phillies were winning 3-1 (won 7-2 btw on Sunday night), Chris Jericho and Tommy Dreamer won titles in the WWE and that I had notes to do.
g) He started showing up on the site again, guess he can't stay away.
h) the shit starts up again.

Basically I explain this to say to those who are normally here, he is trying to get the responses he is getting as he is taking the argument he was having with me to the site. I don't think responding to him will do anything but just degenerate into an endless flare war.

FSM only had one rule "don't be an asshat" so I'm going to have to take out the stick and delete those posts Kurtz/Scott and those alike that just want to go around the same rabbit hole. I think this is a good definition of trolling (I should know I was called one myself by the man) But hey, at least the whole forum isn't going to be deleted right?Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4989649127373312714.post-44411461108066386672009-06-08T08:53:00.000-07:002009-06-08T21:44:54.686-07:00Thick and Heady - That's what she saidSlow Pour

Art - Really liked the whole set-up to this strip with the background, the detail on the tap and the bar itself. Panels 1 and 2 are basically the same, but with the story it is expected (not much big action going on). Also, Jase doesn't move a lot again, but the facial expressions are done well and help to serve the story.

The only real complaint is the coloring and placement of the shading, Robbie more so then Jase. The color seems too light and again the placement under the eye and on the chin is just weird. It looks more like he has eczema then that there is light coming from the right side of the panel.

Story - Simple set-up and a pun for a punchline. Nothing groundbreaking but it was enough for me to chuckle. After all between those two getting it RIGHT on the first try would have been more unlikely then the beer slushie (which does sound delicious).Unknownnoreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4989649127373312714.post-19680994633588495532009-06-05T08:12:00.000-07:002009-06-08T21:45:53.817-07:00Here comes the rain againHey guys coming from the rainy East Coast here,
No strip yet, but I'll be doing a critique today since the story has progressed since the last time I did one

Any news on the Kurtz addressing his DING! strip?Unknownnoreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4989649127373312714.post-19477562623766409802009-06-02T19:51:00.000-07:002009-06-09T13:06:33.948-07:00Where's Zeddmore?Unique Fixer-Upper Oppurtunity

Art – I like the overall atmosphere of the strip as from the opening shot of the building, to the background, and even foreground drawing in front of Robbie in panel 3 help show that the place is a dump. This is a lot better then just taking the word of Max and having bland backgrounds.

Also, the shading is done well here as it matches the darkness of the building and what little light casting the shadow. However, this shading makes my point about the usual shading, the differences of shading between those strips in “light” and “dark” is minimal at best.

All the characters look good as well, but I have a question, does Jase ever move? I know one strip is not a big deal but if you look here, here, and here it looks like his major motions are facial expression and slight upper body movement.

Story – I like the story so far just for the mere fact that Cole, Brent, Francis, Jade, and Skull (even though I like Skull a lot) are not involved. I don’t necessarily hate stories with the above characters involved, but you get fatigued from seeing the same 3-4 characters over and over again, especially if there is a larger cast of characters behind them as well.

The story line has a lot of ground to cover to see if anything comes of it, but it is a nice change of pace and I’m interested in seeing the next day’s strip just to see the interaction between the three.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com23tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4989649127373312714.post-17685682692699766642009-05-28T15:10:00.000-07:002009-05-28T21:55:07.493-07:00Convooooooy!Hey guys,
Its 6:10pm EDT and I have to do the 1 hour drive home and the Robbie and Jase part 2 JUST updated so I'll critique by the end of the day
*edit*
Art - I know that they have been introduced before but I like the new character models of Robbie and Jase, especially in color. It may just be that it is nice to see something outside the normal realm of the PVP offices, but Jase looks good and I like Robbie is excellent. The one thing i dislike is the floating button on top of Jase's hat. I know it may have been part of the original design but it is just distracting and looks stupid frankly.

I love, love, loved, (see not just tearing down) the background in the first frame as addition of the sandwich materials and pots above were nice details and drawn well with great detail. It is a shame that gets lost in the subsequent panels, but I'm happy with one panel.

Two complaints:

I don't get the shading of the eyes though the strip as the blotches of lighter skin tone look weird and doesn't seem to follow normal lighting patterns.

Robbie basically has the same facial expression in panels 2 and 4 looking like a cut and paste job (subtle differences but WAAAAY too subtle). Also, I don't know why he is looking away from Jase in the 2nd panel as the brim of his hat blocks any "rolling" Scott was trying to go for. If he just had him staring at Jase, giving a more "angry" appearance, would have been more effective.

Story - Meh. The punchline was not spectacular but the "anime" eyes with it make me smile a bit. I do like the fact that Robbie is taking the role he is taking now as he is a) Jase's most trusted friend b) right about what is going on.

Jase could be used as the default "deus ex machina" rich guy for story-lines but I hope this arc results in something worthwhile and funny. I don't think Jase is going to give up his life and will continue in that role, but getting him off his ass in a storyline sense is nice to see.

Ding! no update in 59 days for those who are counting (which i likely me and someone with a bad case of OCD) :)Unknownnoreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4989649127373312714.post-75093309082921387072009-05-26T15:06:00.000-07:002009-06-08T21:47:06.886-07:00Yes Really!Y SO SRS?

Art - I do like the LOLbat style as I have always been a fan of Marvel/DC - esque art. I love the backgrounds here as well as they give a nice atmosphere while still being subtle. Also, here the shading makes sense because a) it is night and b) they are standing next to a giant spotlight.

To all those people who wonder I complain about PVP hands look at panel four, they are done VERY well, if not a little long in the fingers, and the regular fused hands just look so crappy in comparison to what can be done.

The commissioner in the scene is done well, but is a dead ringer for another famous character, so we'll call him Tim Mordon so there is no problem :).

Finally, doesn't LOLbat's codpiece look a little too "happy" in the second panel? :)

Sorry guys, nothing that was bad art-wise in this strip, so I had to nitpick.

Story - This is just basically a scene ripped from the middle of any Batman arc where a criminal, or set of criminals, happens to take over the city. I had to read it a few times to see that the commissioner wanted him to stay AWAY, rather then help the city, which I suppose is the joke. It was too subtle, especially for a LOLbat strip, and lost it's when I had to find the joke, outside of the leet speak.

*edit* The title of the strip did make me chuckle though and I wish that LOLbat said it in the strip, possibly in the first panel. *edit*

Two questions though:
What is the symbol on the LOLbat spotlight? *edit* Thanks Robert

In your opinion, is LOLbat strip the PVP version (and funnier) of Chef Brian strip from CAD?Unknownnoreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4989649127373312714.post-65683707189394927702009-05-24T23:21:00.000-07:002009-06-08T21:46:40.388-07:00UpdateHey guys,
Actually the whole thing was a lead up to this.

Its a great scene and movie, plus it has Kirk Douglas, Lawrence Olivier, and Tony Curtis (as a Roman?) In addition it take a camaraderie role for this site.

Really, the poster kurtz only still cares about the identity of FSM even though a) he isn't involved in the site any more b) NO ONE knows who the hell he is, oh well if that still is a splinter in his mind.

It seems I pissed more people off with my joke, so I'm sorry for that, back to normal business later today.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4989649127373312714.post-91736549084780712192009-05-23T20:46:00.000-07:002009-05-23T20:54:25.465-07:00UpdateFor the reveal of the identity of FSM:

Well i got an email from one of Scott Kurtz's constituents but not from the man myself. Really there isn't a lot of interest on the issue (I am surprised frankly) so unless something changes I'll keep it to myself

Also, I still have the interview with Jim Thorpe to put up and I hope with the holiday weekend to get that to you guys.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4989649127373312714.post-24231581443543001872009-05-20T11:56:00.000-07:002009-05-20T13:51:53.731-07:00Cream in the FacePunk'dlash

Art - A solid piece of art here, as I like the fact Skull is seen in his entirety. It is to be expected because it is a simpler piece with 3 characters, a couch, background, and shaving cream, but done well.

However, I do agree with those people that it is a cut and paste as the only discernable change is a small smile to small frown on Francis, Skull's body position, and the couch position. As a matter of change the art should have shown a) Francis starting to laugh at the backfire b) Brent starting to move backward because Skull hitting him in the face is with some force.

Story -Unknownnoreply@blogger.com5
