Uppercut! Uppercut! Waiting for the... WAAAITAMINUTE...

I like the pandas, but the fisticuffs are a little familiar.

That is all for now. Sorry.

Meh, not too familiar. The general layout is just because of the way the characters started out, left to right.

Pose of victim and attacker is only similar in that one is on the left, and the other is on the right.

And I'm still annoyed that she's not doing a Cannon Spike Kick in that panel. *mutters*

Dude, you're really reaching for something to complain about here.

paulsouthworth said...

Both those panels are in black and white, too! Also: both were created on Earth. Psht, COME ON, Kurtz. Get out of your planetary rut.

At least FSM thought to apologize for the post before he even submitted it.

What a great guest
Up next comedian Paul F. Thompkins

This blog needs a "Walker, Texas Ranger" lever.

meh, it's a pretty common pose. i don't really think there's anything wrong with it.

HOWEVER, the direction of the "anime" action-type lines bothered me; shouldn't they be going in the other direction? (ex. uh ... the miranda/skull panel, i guess.)

Yeah guys, lets all mock FSM because he's implying that they're the exact same.

Sage said...

Im actually mocking Paul because of the great commentary on the commentary :) He didn't say anythign when the post was long.

Seeing SK's lukewarm admiration of Bill Amend was fun, compared to his rabid love for Jim Davis.

Maybe he just digs the uppercut

Film Guru said...

Wait, is the complaint that the two panels are too similar? Seriously?!

C'mon, Scott. If you're reaching that much for material, just don't post as often.

Anonymous said...

Film Guru, do you really think anyone would be stupid enough to complain about those two panels being the same?

I do like the drawings of the pandas, and think they make more charismatic well-rounded characters than the regular cast. In fact, I'd like to see an entire week of panda strips that were entirely visual, without shoehorning Brent or Agent David Caruso to tell us the punchline.

And I thought regular will-they-won't-they storylines were painfully drab. I hadn't counted on the extra dreariness of it being transposed to the animal kingdom.

Gee, I wonder if it all works out in the end...

not nitpicky, but i don't agree there is a similarity outside that both were hit with an upper cut.

The one glaring thing was the last panel. I liked Brent's line and that SHOULD have been the punchline. However, the agent ruins it as it was the straight man line after the punchline. The speaking bubbles are straigh in line not indicating that one is after the other and if you read it from left to right (as Walker and any other great man would do) then its punchline -> additionl unnecessary line. If you switched the order of the lines (maybe changing perspective) so the agent is on the right and Brent is on the left or save his line to start the next strip the lunchline would have been unmolested.

This is why you always have to explain your posts, FSM. There are always idiots that misinterpret it if you don't make it agonizingly obvious what you're saying.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, they're similar. So, what?

The big problem with this strip is the humans telling us what's funny. I think we get it that he's been rebuffed. Didn't really need a guy with an earpiece for that.

Now, the strip is bringing in yet another disconnected pop culture parody. I'm just trying to figure out if this PvP version of Cesar Milan is supposed to look like Mr. Miyagi, or if this is just more of Kurtz's crap-ass art at work here. It's definitely his disconnected storytelling at work again...

At least it isn't as depressing as C-A-D has become. Somebody getting pissed off at what a robot said, when it was never presented in the strip. A dead baby. Now, canceled wedding plans. Jeez. Think these two fuckwits are in competition to see who can bore the shit outta their readers more?

Where the hell are the Ding updates? Did Scott make a big deal about staying on schedule? It's a much better comic than PvP :/

It's similar and yet completely different at the same time. What's your point FSM? I'm apparently one of those idiots who don't understand your fantastic genius unless you spell it all out and even give us those little phonetic symbols.

paulsouthworth said...

It's similar in that someone is punching someone else, and they happen to be leaning in the same direction. What about all those strips where the person on the left talks, followed by the person on the right? I mean, those are virtually identical, right?

And Sage, I did comment on at least one of the long posts. I cleverly insinuated, through biting sarcasm, that just because it's long doesn't make it good.

And yes, that is what she said.

paulsouthworth said...

Also: Anonymous 1:17 PM, the action lines are heading in the correct direction. Notice the panda getting punched is actually being propelled in the same direction as the lines.

This is how you know they are correct.

First thing that crossed my mind (okay, second, the first was "Why is Mr. Miyagi here?") was that he's found another way to drag this joke-lite storyline out.

Bandana Hammock said...

Anonymous 3:34 AM, you petulant shitbag. Could it be any more obvious that it's a caricature of Mr. Miyagi? Look closely:

It is an excellent, instantly recognizable caricature.

Bandana, you ignorant slut, WHY is it Mr. Miyagi acting like the dog whisperer?

@Paul:

Yes, but should the panda be being propelled in that direction at all? I mean, do people generally punch toward themselves alsdkfjlskdjsldlAARRRGHHH never mind, i am getting tired of scrutinising every single nuance in a comic strip
