Ahhh. Silence.

There hasn't been a comment on the previous post for almost three hours now. Seeing as there has been a lot of noise, not a lot of signal, I'm tempted to close it to comments.

But I'm not going to, because there's really no significant reason to. The comments bordered on hateful at times (I deleted some excessively rude comments), but it was mostly civil. If folks want to keep talking in it, go ahead, but I encourage you to move on.

I'm ready to move on to today's strip. Overall fine if it's the start of a (hopefully short) story line, but not if it's a one off. And very hard to guess which it will be these days.

Also, is it just me or should Brent not be in panel 3? He seems to be just stuck in there so we remember he's in the strip even if he's got no lines, but in panel 2 he's behind Cole, and then, to me, it seems like we turn the "camera" to look at Robbie standing across from Cole, but flash! Brent is behind Robbie, too!

Though since Robbie is looking over his shoulder, I guess he's walking away from them? But it still seems like Brent is out of place. Just there to make the background less blank without Kurtz having to draw any scenery.

"A welcome surprise"

I liked today's strip and am looking forward to this storyline to see what Brent/Cole say and if the Robbie/Jase thing will be explored.

Also, the joke make me chuckle as Scott did a good job with the art showing him as a hairy schlub type character and the no pants thing is shudderific (with Cole's, simple solution offering too)

About the 173 (or whatever it is now) it wasnt a bad discussion save for a few fucktards, i guess the people who see Scott's Twitter post are from the higher education part of his audience as most made cogent points. Sadly though they are ones we've heard dozens of times (its a FREE webcomic, go do a webcomic yourself, stop reading it, why do you guys hate on Kurtz, you are jealous) so it was old ground to cover

Architectural and grammatical nits to pick:

1. Architecture: Does Kurtz know what a veranda actually is? It's a covered open-air space that faces the street, in front of the house. I'm sure we could debate definitions, but I think he wanted a fancy-sounding word for deck, and trust me, a veranda is not a patio or deck that faces the pool. I'll wager though, that by the pool is exactly where we'll see these three sitting in tomorrow's strip.

2. "Guess I should, put some pants on too" is a gentle reminder that Kurtz needs an editor with a firm grasp on what commas are for. They're not for arbitrary pauses in dialogue. That's what an ellipsis is for.

Merriam-Webster seems fine with a veranda being on any side of a building. The OED says, "...extending along the front (and occas. other sides)...." (Emphasis mine.) And finally, do you really think Robbie of all people is going to fret exact definitions?

I think it's incredible how much effort you guys are willing to put into a strip you can't stand. Seriously, the definition of "veranda?" And you already know why that comma was there. It's because Kurtz is careless. It's been 10 years, FFS. Either you accept that shit or move on with your life.

Oh no, I disagreed with FSM! I'm a FANBOI! Put it on a t-shirt. Bunch of fakes.

You didn't disagree with FSM. You disagreed with a commenter.

Let me check... mm... no, sorry, there's no t-shirt for that.

You're right bliff, you'd think after 10 years he'd learn by now.

Did you mean fanboy? Yeah I'm a fan of PvP too. As for todays strip I agree with jewels.

Talking of tshirts, it's incredile how Scott will design a strip solely to sell a tshirt. Like LOLbat. He even said himself that the reason he created the character was to sell tshirts.

Is Scott Kurtz a cartoonist or a tshirt salesman?

Hey, I hear Chris Crosby wore a brown shirt today. Time to blog about it and crawl up his ass for being a capitalist dickhole.

Do you know where I could get that brown shirt? It sounds like something I would like to buy.

Do you have a background in Architecture? I do. I'm right. Go ask an architect if he's ever heard of a veranda that's not in the front of a building.

And you're right, Robbie couldn't care less where a veranda is, and he'd probably call the balcony of his house a veranda, so yeah, I probably shouldn't bother being a dick about Robbie's ignorance. But seriously, it's not Robbie's ignorance I've got an issue with, is it? It's Scott's.

And I'm not being a pendant [sic], I'm being a pedant, but for (I hope) good reason. If people who write professionally don't do it well, it only encourages people who don't to do it badly as well. Kurtz should get an editor to catch his sloppiness, if he can't be bothered. The joke in the strip is fine, but come on, spend a couple of bucks and add the polish to make it shine.

Ignore that "Bliff" troll, he's just trying to reignite last week's fire. (And doesn't seem particularly inspired or imaginative in his effort to do so, btw.) Some people just can't move on, it seems!

Re: the new strip, I don't know why, but I'm bored already ... the no-weekends schedule seems to have forced Scott into thinking in arcs that are multiples of five, so I'm settling in for 5, 10, 15, whatever installments of Mary Worth as Rob and Cole share a Very Special Growth Experience. (And no, that's not a reference to the open robe.)

So you're saying since Francis likes Marcie, Kurtz is a pedophile.

I thought about deleting Biff previous comment, because it is a really douchebag comment, taken completely out of context.

However, I'd like everyone to see that Biff is just trying to stir up trouble.

No one is saying SK is a pedophile.

I did, however, just call you a douche. It's the first and hopefully last time I have called someone out like this; in the future I ask that everyone simply ignore him.

UPDATE: I *did* just delete Biff's most recent comment. Uber-douchery.

If I register on blogger, can I ignore users like bliff?

I wouldn't mind it if he disagreed with what people said, but the way he goes about it, he's just trying to cause trouble.

Anonymous said...

Oh nevermind FSM deleted it :)

Okay from now on if trolls are posting I'll just ignore them. Though that doesn't mean people can't make posts disagreeing with what Fake Scott or any of the commenters have said. We'd just really appreciate it if you did it in a civil way. Thank you!

It was a bit much, was it? I'll try to do better.

That is an excellent summary of my own opinion. I would buy you a drink because of that quote.
