Huh...

I haven't been paying much attention to the stats for this blog, but I just saw this interesting link from June:

» More Profound Thoughts About My -- Our? -- PvP Obsession

This is on an official Time Magazine blog, which is weird/cool, but the post is off on a couple of points that need correcting...

  1. Regarding PVP: "it updates every day like frickin' clockwork"

    Not until recently it didn't.

  2. Regarding PVPMMS: "... it's always insightful."

    No it's not.

Damn mainstream media, always getting their facts wrong. But I do like the term "PvP-enhancing prosthetic." :)

It also no longer updates on weekends.

Well we also make people feel less sad about themselves! Wait was that a dig? :)

I also like the term "loyal opposition" We're not bashers of scott, but want to take a closer look at things to try to express an honest(sometimes cogent) point of view

Btw just noticed DING! updated and was mediocre as it seemed to be more like a rehashing of the middle of July strip.

The beginning either was the elf character getting up after he was hit or just a rehash of the previous two panels (ala Rocky 2's opening and kinda muddled everything and took away from this strip. If it means more timely posting (just tell us when it posts and I wont care) then im all for more DING!

It'd be nice if Ding had an RSS feed.

You should establish the X____makes me sad franchise now and make a ton of money FSM, lol.

Just think of it:

Starbucks Makes Me Sad
Hollywood Makes Me Sad
World Hunger Makes Me Sad
Communism Makes Me Sad...

the possibilities are endless!!!

Btw Paul's Bday is coming up whats say we get him Aqualung? only $13.99

Lets be nice to him he's an old man after all. ;)

The newest Ding shows exactly why Scott is a hypocrite.

He calls Buckley out on copy and pasting, and he does it half the time himself.

Scott's also guilty of using B^U a lot, too.

FSM you are a coward and a hack.

If you had any balls you would drop your anonymity and offer your critiques as your own.

Anonymous said...

But it's okay for you to criticize anonymously, right?

WTF? Ive read pvp since 2004, and I can count the times there wasnt a new pvp strip to read on one hand.

It's okay, anon2:57, it's just another of SK's drones trying to do his dubious twitter bidding and 'uncover' FSM. He obvious struck out on digging up any details himself (or simply had no skills to start with) and just went with a pathetic bait instead.

I feel almost sorry for the Fake Scott McCloud.

There was a time when this site was a pithy and refreshing critical look at a popular form of entertainment.

Since then, largely due to the attention that Scott brought to it, it's transformed into something else I'm not sure FSM was prepared for. It's become content separate from it's original purpose.

And now FSM has this thing on his hands, probably more attention and traffic that he's ever had with any previous attempts at online fame, and he can't really do anything with it.

It's almost sad, really.

Don't worry the trolls will soon leave like they did when we all first discovered this blog.

What amazes me is that they were still trolling even when Scott said on his podcast that he enjoys this blog and and our honest feedback. Unfortunately it grew too much for him and he couldn't take it anymore.

"WTF? Ive read pvp since 2004, and I can count the times there wasnt a new pvp strip to read on one hand."

But just imagine what a multi-fingered, octopus'ed-armed freak you'd need to be to count the number of times PvP didn't update "every day like frickin' clockwork".

Scott may get round to it eventually, but there's no way he could ever lay claim to have kept up with a regular daily regime in the past.

It reminds me of the comment he made a while back about how dropping the weekends would help him create a buffer and post more regularly. Since then he admitted he hadn't really built up said buffer... and Ding was now behind schedule too.

Nah, seriously, can't fault him for wanting to take the weekends off but Scott has always had time-management issues.

Scott's been on time every day with his strip since he took off weekends. New strip has been up at midnight every day since.

Sometimes he's even ahead. As FSM admits he even cheats and looks ahead sometimes.

Regarding the weekend snafu, the guy posted that blog entry over a month after PvP switched so how had he not noticed? Even if he didn't read it every day, you'd still notice the missing strips as you backtracked through.

because not everyone is as obsessed with finding any possible slip up from the house of Kurtz so you can use it somehow discredit him.

Anon 3:30pm, the timely updates didn't start until well after he gave up weekends. He gave up weekends in May and didn't get on time until sometime in June.

This is true. However, it's quite clear that Ding! suffered as a consequence, appearing to average about one strip per week in June and 1 strip for the entire month of July.

So Scott's still failing at getting 7 comics out per week. Bear in mind the Ding! is commissioned work so he's also screwing over a paying customer.

@ anon/4:00pm - who or what post are you replying to? Your snipe is nonsensical without context.

How are we discrediting him through his art?

Putting the bounty of FSM what the true extent of our complaint to "discredit" him

Last night my father ripped me a new asshole. There’s no other way to describe the litany of judgement and disappointment that came out of his lips. For those of you cartoonists out there lamenting that fact that your parents don’t get or approve of what you do…let me inform you that the opposite faction has it no easier. There are times, in fact, that I wish my father didn’t have such a firm mental grip on what I do for a living.

There is a deficit; a hole I have to dig myself out of. That has to happen first before I can work ahead, I know that. But it’s more clear than ever how important this effort is to the future of PvP and my career as a cartoonist.

From the May 13th "State of the Union: post Seattle" post by Kurtz, he did have a hole (and was thus BEHIND) and has done a graet job getting back to speed.

Btw his usual buffer is about a day and he increased it to 7-8 for SDCC and is back to his usual. Hey he gets it to us consistantly every day, his buffer just isnt a month like he wanted.

I thought that the bounty was just a joke, until someone found his twitter of the hunt being at a 10 and wanting it at a 4.

algeya, I'm not a fluent or native Spanish speaker, but I was always under the impression that "tu" means "you" and "su" means "your", "his", and "her" (in the possessive).

"Mi casa es tu casa"
My house is you house?

I can only imagine that might mean a you-house or something.

"Mi casa es su casa"
My house is your house.
