Panel 3 bugs me the most here. It feels like Brent and Francis have become finger puppets for Kurtz's views on the matter. Francis looking at the camera in the last panel doesn't help either. The whole thing just feels forced.
The Canterbury Tales was a bunch of people sitting around telling dirty stories, not sitting around having a fart contest. There's a distinct difference.

I agree, it looks like his collar is sprouting an arm in his 2nd panel.
Also, the "fart week" joke was good but telegraphed nicely in the 4th panel to decrease its effectiveness.
Btw I hope Brent blows out his O-ring to to with his detatched nipple.
It's kind of sad the way Kurtz defends his fartophilia, and it doesn't surprise me that the PA guys hold it in contempt. My first job after college was writing software at an insurance company, and the work environment consisted of a 20x20 foot room with around 6 developers sitting at tables around the perimeter. The room constantly smelled like farts, as one could fart (silently) all you wanted and never be busted for it. I got so sick of it that I made a point to never fart when others were around out of simple respect.
The fact that Kurtz works alone means he's never had to sit around smelling someone else's farts all day long, whereas the PA guys have learned this simple rule. Yeah, farts can be amusing when blasted out once in a blue moon (heh) while drinking or goofing off, but as a daily (or god forbid, hourly) occurrence, fuck you.
I dunno, I'm not the type of person who finds farting amusing in any way, but this strip made me chuckle.
Granted, I'm not familiar with any kind of 'pro-farting' platform which Kurtz may have taken in the past (did I miss something?), but as an uninformed reader, I found it semi-entertaining, especially Brent's intro in panel 1.
That said, the panel 2 arm/collar issue is severely messed up. I've gotta wonder how you draw that and don't notice how wierd it is.
For the record. If you watch "A Knights Tale" with Heath Ledger, which was inspired by Canturbury Tales (Listen to Brian Helgeand's commentary) and wait thru the credits to the end, you can see the characters from the movie having a fart contest. Incidently, one of the characters is Geoffry Chaucer (Played by Paul Bettney)
I have been enjoying these strips, but on a personal level I do agree with Steve B, sitting in an office with people farting (or smoking, back in the day) is just disgusting.
Yeah, I liked the "no farting" strip, but this one is stretching it. I wish Kurtz had taken it in a different direction - maybe Reggie coulda shown up and been really confused because the place smells so different. Meh IDK
Btw, I wouldn't take panel three too seriously, I'm pretty sue Scott meant it as a joke about PvP's tendency towards fart jokes.

Alright, but that's a modern take on the story with a more modern outlook. And the scene you mentioned is a single scene, it's not the focal point of the whole movie.

esoteric scribe, there's quite a bit of vulgar humour in Canterbury Tales. But if there wasn't it would have detracted from the point of the piece. It's supposed to be a range of tales from a wide sample of Chaucer's contemporary society, so of course it included the voices of less sophisticated individuals.
PVP, on the other hand, is all Miller's Tales all the time.
I think it's a huge stretch to say that this comic is based on the Canterbury tales. Shooting the shit it what guys do, and farting is just part of it.
Kurtz needs a proof reader - it's "bourgeois" the adjective, not the noun "bourgeoisie"!

I don't think anyone is saying that. I'm certainly not. But Kurtz used The Miller's Tale to make his "farts are art" point in the March 28, 2006 strip.
Fart jokes can indeed be funny. I found the Rock Band strip last week very funny, actually. But they - like so many jokes - are best used very selectively. To make an "all fart, all the time" mantra, even if just for a week, is too much.
And, you know, a little gross. I'm a man, and I don't need to fart all the time to feel like one.
So what we've established here is that Kurtz needs to never do the same idea for more than 2 days.
It's not that we are saying the strip is based on Canterbury Tales. Just that farts have been used for humor and/or entertainment for as long as there has been humor written.

Well one thing that Scott can't say thats he's better at than CAD in the last two weeks is his updates. :)
I dont know if he's doing them or their not getting up but if I work until 7 and its still not up wow.

Although overall it was a good strip.
I think the reason CAD can update so frequently is because it is terrible, and thus requires less effort to produce. That might be just me though, heh.
