Well Chick-fil-A DOES make a tasty sandwich

The Amazing Adventures of Brent Sienna

The only thing that REALLY pissed me off about this strip is now I have to get waffle fries on my way home from work.

Art - I do like how today's strip is drawn as both the diary and the background for Chick-fil-A are drawn well with great detail. Also, the moment between Brent and Jade in panel 2 is great as it shows legitimate sweetness between the two.

The only problems were again with the eye shadows that Brent and Jade have throughout the strip. Also, the square panels in the restaurant lost it's coloring in the last panel.

Story - Again I'm not a Doctor Who fan but this strip was funny without the references. First, the overall premise that a guy would want to keep a journal is funny and the fact that he does it because a female character from a TV show (as i found out through conversation) did it made me chuckle.

Also, I have bought a few things when I was younger because someone on TV or in a comic had or did something and realized they were only really fun because they were, well in a TV or comic. Plus, most of our days during the week are pretty ho-hum and it's the weekends that become fun. It is just remembering the details for a journal the next day that becomes hazy.

Do you really have to commute 90 minutes to work? That blows big time.

Brett Schiller (Sage) said...

@ John
Well its a 60 min commute, mostly one long highway in the country, and then the fiancee' at her house for 1/2 an hour then dinner. Thats my Mon - Wed, thank god for Adam Carolla, Preston and Steve, and BS Report podcasts.

That's why it is mean I craved waffle fries at the time.

R.W.McGee said...

heh, the BS Report is great...especially the calls to Jack-O and his cousin Sal.

Brett Schiller (Sage) said...

@ RW
It is not Bill Simmon's cousin, it is Jimmy Kimmell's cousin Sal. That's just his name from the Jimmy Kimmell show

R.W.McGee said...

I know, but they all call him Cousin Sal...it's like he's EVERYBODY's cousin Sal =P

Well he's a Dallas and Mets fan, he AINT NO COUSIN OF MINE!

But those are the two biggest knocks against him and he is funny.

Straight flowing on a boat on the deep blue sea
Busting five knots, wind whipping out my coat
You can't stop me motherf***er cause I'm on a boat

... there's something funny about a male keeping a journal?

Sko said...

Never done it myself (don't have the patience/perseverance) but it's nothing out of the ordinary, no.

Sko said...

And thinking about it, in this age of 'blogs', it's essentially already widespread - albeit on a new medium.

Chris Dunning said...

A Nonny Mouse, I don't think the joke is that it's a guy keeping a journal, I think the joke is that often times the most exciting thing to go in said journal is hardly what one might consider an adventure. Chick-fil-A type stuff.

Chris Dunning said...

Gah crap... I hit publish sooner then I meant to:

Continuing on. I don't think most people that keep blogs are nearly as interesting as they thing they are. Usually they're just self involved.

Regarding today's strip - "The One Where They Play D&D"

"Oh brave *adventures*,"?

Brett Schiller (Sage) said...

Why do I find it funny? Generally people who keep journals/diarys in my life are teenage girls.

I listen to the Preston and Steve podcast where one of the producers admitted he kept a journal and was summarily made fun of for it.

But I guess thats not a universal thing :)

Also, in my opinion I don't correlate diarys and journals with blogs because to me the nature of the former is more private and the latter is more public. But thats just my two cents

@Chris Dunning - you know what I think is worse? Twitter.

Most of the people on it are so up their own arse, it's scary. No, we don't need to know what you're doing every minute of the day, mate, you're just not that interesting.

Hm. I briefly expected the DM's plot to turn into a full soap opera premise, but then I realized it was just a Friends joke. Eh. Anyway, I agree that it'd have been funnier wihout that last "For those who didn't get the joke already" panel.

Chris Dunning, I didn't think the fact of Brent keeping a journal was the joke either. I was more responding to Sage's comment about the premise than the comic itself.

Ah, I stand corrected... actually I sit corrected.
